the Methuselah Principle and the Mercy of God
In my book Prophecy: From Now On... I describe something I call "The Methuselah Principle." That being, his name roughly translates, "When he is gone it comes." Interesting name. Imagine signing that on your school papers in the first grade. "You can just call me When, for short!"
Anyway, it sure speaks to God's mercy. Here is an over 900 year warning in this man's name! God's mercy is such that Methuselah was the oldest living man in the history of the world, and still God waited for repentance. Methuselah died, Noah and his family were locked into the ark, and still God waited. Folks walked around, pointed, laughed and mocked for another week! "Ha! I thought God was going to destroy us, Doomer! Where is He? Haha! Where is all that stuff called RAIN!?"
But on the seventh day, it began to rain.
Jesus said that the end would be "As in the days of Noah." That was the same sermon where he said the generation that sees these things BEGIN would not pass away before seeing the coming of the Son of Man. How long is a generation? Until the Last Man Standing. That is why I refer to it as The Methuselah Principle. We cannot forget or be discouraged by the mercies of God.
His mercies endure forever.
